We awoke this morning to bright sunshine, white fluffy clouds and patches of blue sky. We'd almost forgotten what they looked like. The forecast looked good for the 35 mile sail to Bangor, in Belfast Lough. We didn't need to leave until midday as the tide would have been against us until then so we had leisurely showers and paid another visit to IK Butchers in Bath Street, who provided us with excellent peppered pork chops for yesterday's dinner. David came away this time with a small joint of beef, smoked pork sausages and home cured gammon steaks, all vacuum packed for us, which is great on the boat when the fridge is not on all the time. The prices were good as well!
The sunshine stayed with us as we motored out of Ardglass harbour though there wasn't much wind.
The wind stayed very light and variable at first so we motored for a couple of hours before a steady force 3 built up from the North East. It was bliss to be able to sail in a flat sea even if it was still a bit chilly.
We made good progress Northwards with the tide helping us along and were passing through Donaghadee Sound, inside the Copeland Islands and into Belfast Lough at 17.00. The wind gradually
dropped approaching Bangor but we were moored in the marina by 18.40, well ahead of our ETA. Another marina rather than anchoring but at least we've got good internet access.
We're now putting away the Irish Sea pilot book and are moving onto the Clyde Cruising Club Sailing directions. If the forecast E or SE breeze materialises tomorrow we are aiming for Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre. We haven't sung the song yet!
